The Annual Malta Beer Festival

Cisk Beer FestivalThe little island of Malta is starting to heat up in more ways than just the weather for the locals half days of work and the endless flow for tourists visiting the small island in the middle of the Med means the summer season has really kicked in. Malta puts on many events on for locals and tourists alike, from raves to festivals there is something going on for everyone, but the one event that everyone enjoys and looks forward to is Farsons Annual Beer festival as it is a family friendly affair with free entry and ample parking available, there is no excuse to not to join in the fun and frolics.

In 1981 Farson held their first festival at their brewery in Mriehel and it prove to be a success as they then shifted it to San Anton Gardens then relocated it again to Ta Xbiex gardens for a number of years. As it continued to grow in size the festival moved to Ta’ Qali National Park.

For 30 years Farsons have put on this event in July/August without fail so that the people who attend can enjoy a week to ten days of entertainment usually in the form of local Rock and Pop musicians mounting to 300 hours of live music on two stages The main stage and the Rock stage ,there is also 40 live performances from other performing arts .You will be able to indulge in local and international food cuisines such as Mexican, Chinese and Turkish and most importantly all 20 or more local and foreign beers and ales oh and the odd stout that Farsons produce and import, and as for the children there is a fantasyland area for them to enjoy.

I personally place this event as a must see come rain (very unlikely Maltese weather though but you never know) or shine being a publicans’ daughter I have hardly missed this open air event. As a child I remember my dad buying his commemorative beer mug, dancing to the music which resulted me wishing the ground swallowed me up as I was embarrassed to be seen with him also it gave my dad a chance to bump into old friends and have a catch up over another pint and now as an adult I plan my summer holiday around this event if work permits, you will usually find me at the rock stage daring one of my sisters or whoever has asked me for a lift there to down their pint as quickly as possible and what makes it even more special is that it is one activity both my partner and I really enjoy, DRINKING GALLONS OF CISK we have even started our own commemorative mug collection.

So for all you Beer lovers and their families why don’t you plan your summer around this ever so popular event and join in the beer drinking fun I am sure it will be a sizzling night to remember that is if you have not drank the island dry and have one for me as I am unfortunately be missing it this year.
