Gzira Brawl ends in Several Injuries

Local police said that a brawl in the town of Gzira on July 10th resulted in three men being injured with one of the victims being left in critical condition. Police said that a 33-year-old man from Pembroke suffered serious facial injuries during the incident, but is expected to recover.

He was involved in an altercation in Sir Patrick Stuart Street in Gzira with a 39-year-old male from Ta’ Xbiex. It was reported that the brawl began inside of the Orpheum Hall about four o’clock in the afternoon and it later spilled out onto the residential street.

Two more men, a 33-year-old resident of Hamrun, and a 20-year-old Gzira native were then struck by 30-year-old Mtarfa woman who was driving a Mercedes C200 as she was trying to flee the scene of the fight. The man from Hamrun is listed as being in critical condition while the young man from Gzira sustained grievous injuries. Police believe that the pair of incidents are related and are holding the driver of the car and the 39-year-old man in custody.

The woman, who is believed to be the girlfriend of one of the men, originally ran away after crashing into the two men, but police arrested her later. Eyewitnesses stated that a group of people surrounded the Mercedes and tried to stop her, but she drove around the block and then apparently deliberately ran into the men who were standing in front of the former dance hall.
